Update on the Haskins Family

I wanted to give you all an update on the Haskins family that I highlighted on my blog a couple weeks ago.

Kyler had a blood transfusion about a week ago because his blood count was so low. He did well for a few days (more energy and eating more than he had for a while) and even started kindergarten the day after the tranfusion. However, at his weekly appointment on the 29th he was running a mild fever and the doctors decided to hospitalize him trying to head off any infection he may have contracted. Kyler got another tranfusion in hopes that his platelet and hemoglobin counts would increase. As his dad said on their blog, an average person's platelet count is somewhere between 150,000 and 300,000-Kylers is at 23,000.

Please continue to send all the prayers and support you can for this remarkable family. They have been going through so much in the last four months; I hope that things will turn around for them very soon.

When I delivered the photos to the family last week, I told them I would post their slideshow on my blog as soon as I learned how to use the slideshow software. Well, here it is. You can see how close this family is. Two of Kyler's favorite things to do is play Pokemon cards and play video games with his brother Kendrick. Dad, Darrell, is also trying to teach the boys to play the drums. I hope that when Kyler is back to his old self again that I'll be able to post an updated photo session of the family...won't that be something to celebrate!
I was concerned about their privacy and didn't want to post too much info about them, but mom, Sandie, assured me that they actually want people knowing about their situation. The more people who know about them means the more prayers that are being sent.

Enjoy the slideshow and give your family a big hug while being thankful that they are all healthy! As always, I welcome your comments below.

    Our baby is 21!

Well, the day finally came...we are the parents of a 21-year-old legal adult! We've missed being with Ali for her last four birthdays because she's away at school in Portland. I hope she knows how much we miss her (but especially on her special day)! I thought I'd put together something special for her that will remind her of how much Louie, Katie, Cassie and I miss her.

To check out the slideshow, just click the play button (and make sure your sound is on). As always you can leave comments at the bottom of this post.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE...WE MISS YOU!! (and by the way, don't drink too much tonight!)

    The Rose Family

I had an opportunity to photograph the Rose family at their home yesterday. I have to say, it was one of the most beautiful houses I've seen for a long time. It was so nice to see this house in the middle of the city, but to get the feeling it was sitting in the middle of the countryside. I love the architecture of the house and how the family looks in front of it. It's such a great feeling to know that when this family someday leaves this home, they'll always have these photos to remind them of their past.

    Suzy and Ray

I had a REALLY fun engagement session yesterday at a local golf course. Before the shoot, I was actually able to even get in 9 holes with my 15-year-old daughter-she's the cute one in the golf cart :)

I can't wait for Suzy and Ray's wedding in September. They are SO much fun and we have a lot in common...we both know what it's like to be parents of teenagers :) This session gave me a really good idea of what their relationship is like. I could absolutely see that they're best friends and love to laugh and enjoy life!

    What a wonderful family

I had the extreme pleasure to photograph the Haskins family a couple weeks ago. Their youngest son is surviving childhood cancer and continues treatment. I felt so honored to spend a couple of hours with these parents and their sons. It's easy to see the love this family has for one another is definitely one of the ingredients to the healing process. Please hold them in your thoughts and send prayers that Kyler continues to respond to the treatment.

    Baby birds

Well, our first baby bird is beginning her senior year at the University of Portland. While I was photographing a wedding in Tahoe this weekend, our 21-year-old left for school (this may have been her last summer at home). She will be doing her student teaching this year and getting her double degree (English and Secondary Education) in May. Our middle daughter Katie is beginning her freshman year at Sierra College and the baby of the group will be a freshman in high school. Wow, where has the time gone! (Please feel free to leave comments at the bottom of this section.)

Strawberry Lodge with Genie and Brian

Genie and Brian had the most beautiful wedding near Tahoe this weekend! Brian was raised in Alaska and Genie spent a lot of her childhood in the Tahoe area at her parent's cabin, so the Strawberry Lodge seemed the perfect choice for their wedding! In addition to Genie and Brian being an amazing couple, this wedding was especially fun for me because one of my favorite families was there. I've worked with the Spring family (yes, they're the nutty group below) for the last ten years. I've been honored enough to photograph all three daughter's weddings and am privileged to now be their friend (Tom and MaryBeth, I can't wait to visit you in DC next year after Ali graduates college!). Thanks to the Springs introducing me to Genie, I was lucky enough to be able to spend a great weekend capturing memories for Genie and Brian! Have a great time in Hawaii you two!

Heather and Rich at Lake Natoma Inn

Heather and Rich's wedding was amazing! Lake Natoma Inn is a beautiful spot for a wedding and Rich and Heather were SO MUCH FUN TO WORK WITH...they made my job very easy!! Everyone can tell how much in love they are. I know they're going to have a long and happy life together. (Please feel free to leave comments at the bottom of this section.)

    Here we go!!!

Welcome to the first posting of my new blog. Since I am now just getting into the blog world I'll post some recaps of recent events to give you an idea of who I am and what I do. (Please feel free to leave comments at the bottom of this section.)

You'll see photos of weddings and portraits I photograph as well as some personal stuff!

This summer has been filled with exciting things professionally, as well as personally.

June started out with my "baby" cousin getting married! Matt is the last one of the cousins to get married and we all thought he was going to stay an eligible bachelor for the rest of his days. Thank goodness he met Jen! She is really a great addition to our wild and crazy family! Thanks Matt and Jen for allowing me to photograph your special day for you! Here are a few photos from the day.

Matt with his gorgeous bride and his beautiful daughter.

    The happy couple!

The next week held some great days for the Brown family. Our 17-year-old daughter graduated from high school and our 14-year-old daughter graduated from middle school! Next year our oldest daughter will graduate from college!!!!

The rest of June and July was filled with weddings, weddings, and more weddings! I worked with some great couples and got some great photos...in spite of the 110 degree heat!!!!!!
