Friends of Day Valley

Yesterday, my husband, our daughter Katie, and I (along with my best friend) had the pleasure of attending, and photographing, an American Cancer Society fundraiser held by the Friends of Day Valley. Four years ago my aunt was frustrated by how many people are affected by, and afflicted with, with cancer. She decided to do something about it and began organizing a yearly fundraiser. The events started out small, but have grown significantly every year. This year there were approximately 150 in attendance and almost $7,000 was raised! This year's event would not have been the success it was without all the hard work of The Smith,Cole and Forsell-Holm families, as well as countless others. The festivities were held in the yard of Lars and Marie Forsell-Holm and the catering was donated by the Leeman Family and Almaden Construction.

There were casino games, drawings, auctions, and gift bags as well as a live band and a GREAT spread of food! The fundraiser was very family friendly, with activities for "kids" of all ages! Thanks to my cousin Cherie for being an AWESOME mistress of ceremonies, and to my uncle for keeping the wine flowing all evening! Donations are still coming in and if you'd like to contribute you can email Pam Smith at psmithgilroy@calcom.us ; please make checks payable to ACS.
Undoubtedly, cancer has touched millions of lives in one way or another. It's a devastating and tragic disease that affects people of every age and walk of life. As you all know from my previous posts, I've been working with the Haskins family whose son is battling childhood cancer; my aunt and uncle just lost a dear friend two weeks ago to cancer. Our dream is that the money that is raised every year at the Friends of Day Valley ACS fundraiser will make finding a cure for cancer a reality in the VERY near future! Aunt Pam and Uncle Bob, thank you for letting me be part of it and asking me to capture the event for you! I'm very proud of both of you!!!
Below is a link to the slideshow of the event.
