A week in paradise

I can't believe it, but I finally made it to the week in August that I've been waiting for...vacation in Maui with my husband and daughters. Since we've been to Maui several times, we decided we weren't going to spend the week planning activities. This vacation was going to be all about rest, relaxation, catching up on reading, and spending time with each other. And, I'm happy to say we've been 100% successful! Our activities have consisted of going to the beach, shopping, going to the pool, eating, going back to the beach...well you get the picture.
So far we've gone to one of our favorite restaurant's (Hula Grill), found a new favorite restaurant (Oyster Bar and Grill in Lahaina), laughed a lot and have just had a really good time!
Wednesday afternoon we came to our resort the back way (purely by accident) and passed a little market that looked interesting. Since Ali is back at home and doing all the cooking and shopping, she tries to buy organic when possible. I thought it was going to cost us so much more, but compared to having my husband do the shopping it really isn't. Living on a teacher's salary has taught her to really watch her pennies, too, so she's a good one to send to the store. Anyway, on Thursday Louie, Ali and I walked to the store about 3/4 of a mile down the road. Katie and Cass had no desire to get in any exercise, so they stayed by the pool :) What we found in this little market was really amazing!! We equated it the little store Ali loves in P-town so much called "New Season's". Our purchases included some carrot patte, mock chicken salad (made with tofu), and some really good papaya dressing. All this stuff was made fresh at the market. I NEVER would have bought ANYTHING with tofu if I hadn't tasted it prior. The "chicken salad" is DELICIOUS!!! As we left the market, we walked past the mexican market next door. The signs for shaved ice intrigued us, so we decided to visit them as well. Ali fell in love with the little old lady behind the counter. She's lived on Maui for 25 years, but you wouldn't know it because her accent made it appear that she just left Mexico last week. We brought our goodies back to the condo and made lunch that day. Mmmmm, Mmmmm!! As we were making our purchases we were invited to come back the next day for the Farmer's Market. So, guess where we headed Friday morning?
The five of us decided to make the journey yesterday to the farmer's market and buy the ingredients to have a picnic lunch across the street at the beach. We decided we loved the Mexican deli so much we wanted to take some authentic mexican food to the beach. The homemade tamales and chili rellanos were perfect...well, not so much for Cass. She still has the palate of a ten year old, so unless it's hamburgers, hot dogs, mac and cheese, etc., she isn't interested. We took our yummies across the street to the park/beach and enjoyed an afternoon of sun and surf.

Well, I'm going to get back to my vacation now, but I'll post something else in a couple of days. We're having a wonderful time and are enjoying every single minute here in paradise!!!

I was in Maui in June on my honeymoon and we ate dinner at Oyster Bar and Grill in Lahaina. The best steak I have ever had in my life.
