Cats and Karate

Part of last weekend was spent in the bay area. Friday morning I headed to San Jose to photograph a job at Nordstrom. After the session I got to spend a little time with family and stayed at my cousin's house so that I would be in the area to photograph Mary and Jim's wedding in Woodside on Saturday. Mary is a teacher with my friend Kristin, and you KNOW how much I love to photograph weddings that are referrals. Mary had hired me over the phone, and although we were planning on doing the engagement session in Lincoln, I was able to photograph their engagement session at Edenvale Park earlier in the year. I met Jim that day, and I immediately knew this couple's wedding would be awesome. What I didn't know at the time, is just how much I would end up loving the day! Mary and Jim's wedding is now one of my all time favorites! In fact, if I hadn't been facing a three hour drive back home, and a reception in Folsom on Sunday I wanted to stay and enjoy the good time that everyone was having.

Take a look where Mary and Jim decided to have their celebration. Is it a bed and breakfast; a wedding venue; a botanical gardens; a California landmark? NOPE! This incredible location belongs to a woman named Jo. Jo is one of the kindest most gracious women I have ever met. She owns this home and Mary comes to ride the horses, which is how they met each other. There was not one area of this property that Jo told me was off limits! As I began photographing I thought there must be a coordinator who was "running the show". As I asked about various things I kept getting sent to Jo. I soon found out she has an occasional wedding here for people who she knows. Can you imagine pulling into this driveway everyday and saying to yourself "Ah, I'm home"? This wedding would have been anyone's dream! From the ENORMOUS bathroom where the girls were having their hair and makeup done, to the Austin Healey where the guys had their photos taken, or the garden ceremony, and the patio reception~everything was SPECTACULAR! All this would have been great, but what made this wedding over the top was the wedding party! There were four bridesmaids and four groomsmen, and I don't think ANY of them could have been more fun. The best man, Dennis, really made my job even more fun because of his sense of humor. Regardless of how silly he was yesterday, it was so charming to see him tear up during the toast. He talked about how Mary went to Petco to get some food for her cats when she decided to stick her head in the karate studio that just happened to be next door (and that Jim and Dennis just happened to own).

Mary looked exquisite in her dress and was absolutely glowing all day. The necklace she wore belonged to her matron of honor's grandmother. What a special addition to the wedding day! Everytime Jim looked at his wife, he was just glowing with happiness and pride. These two are an amazing couple, and I will forever thank my friend Kristin for introducing me to them!

I want to send a special thank you to the hostess for the day. Jo, "remarkable" is a complete understatement when it comes to the beauty of your home. Calling it a house does not do it, or you, justice. Your home was inviting and I felt like everyone who was a part of Mary and Jim's day was wrapped in the love you have created and share with everyone who crosses your home's threshold.
Mary and Jim, thank you so much for the honor of being able to photograph your wedding. Words can't express how much fun I had on Saturday, and how wonderful it was to share this small piece of your lives. Your friends and family truly made me feel blessed to have met every single person that day.

Please leave them a comment about their slideshow-I think you will be truly amazed at the beauty of every aspect of the day!
